no naps for the weary

Its 3pm, and none of my 3 (!) children have napped yet today.  WTF?  Well, Delia slept in the carseat at the park for about 20 min but other than that....nada.  It is just impossible to coddle 3 kids to sleep every day so here we are.

Luckily, I think Emma may be asleep or close to it upstairs with a book on tape.  But Elsie and Delia are screaming their heads off in the glider and swing and I refuse to do any more bouncing/nursing/walking with them.  Enough!  If they are still crying in 30 min I suppose I will try again.

But aren't 3 month olds supposed to sleep every 2 hours or something like that?  They used to sleep the day away (when I let them sleep on me, that is).  I know they are full, too, because they both just downed 4 oz bottles....

Oh my goodness, you must be pulling your hair out! I've had a hairy afternoon with Ashen's 2 molars making (or not!) their grand appearance. Motherhood is exhausting!

I just read Penelope Leach that babies at that age are constitutionally unable of staying awake when tired. Doesn't help your sanity necessarily!
oh, and there's Ronia waking up.

Hey Jesse! Good to see you here! While I do like P. Leach in general, I disagree that they will sleep if they need to no matter what. I believe more in the theory of catching them when they are sleepy but not overtired -- once they get overtired it is much much harder to get them down. I do believe some babies need a lot less sleep than others though! Emma barely needed any, while Elsie and Delia need lots more.

fair enough! Certainly an overtired baby is bad news at any age and variations rule when it comes to kids. I didn't mean to cite that like scripture, only I had just read it so I thought to pass it on. It should be said I was not reading terribly carefully since ronia is past that phase
